365 (postcards)

It all started when I stumbled on this page through the lovely folks at Boing Boing. I did the food diary in 2010, and although I will still keep taking photos of delicious food, 2011 is really the year of the postcard. I know many people just take photos for a 365 day project, but I wanted to do something a bit different. Postcards are like a dying medium – alongside letters, people just don’t seem to send them anymore (unless you’re on a cool holiday). I’ve always loved the concept of postcards – unlike letters, postcards are so public, and they have a full blank canvas which everyone can see. Hopefully through this project, I’ll revive a bit more interest in the postcard medium, and it will also give me a bit of inspiration to create something different every day! I’m mostly doing illustrative ones right now but as I get more time I’m definitely going to try experiment more with Photoshop, photography and digitising sketches! If you’d like to collaborate with me on a postcard, please feel free to get in touch. And so with my postcard template and ideas I go to 2011… And a new postcard beginning! Check back here often for the latest on my postcard project!
EDIT: Thanks to everyone who helped support me in this project last year. It was such a great experience and so so hard to keep going. Cam helped me a lot though and for that I’m totally grateful (he made at least 60 postcards for me when I couldn’t!). I was also featured on Noah’s blog here, for which I was also really grateful Last Updated 28/01/2012. |
| In 2007, artist Noah Scalin came up with an ingenious idea: he cut a skull out of orange paper and posted it on his blog with the note, “I’m making a skull image every day for a year.” His year-long art project became an award-winning internet sensation that resulted in the book Skulls, as well as landing him in the New York Times and on the Martha Stewart Show. | |
